ICM Business Continuity

ICM, a business continuity services provider, selected éclat Marketing In August 2010 to conduct their Public Relations campaign to increase their profile in the UK IT Trade, business and vertical press ahead of the launches of key product and service offering announcements. Previously, ICM had experienced success with the Business Continuity and Risk Management publications, but wanted to extend this messaging and increase their profile and media impact to the wider IT and business press and educate the market on the importance of being proactive, not reactive, in the planning for business interruptions.

During the initial 3-month campaign, ICM had a strategic product launch for which the objective of the campaign was to support the announcement through a series of press and analyst meetings, and positioning the spokesperson as a thought-leader. The target was to secure a minimum of four interviews and six press clippings. In total 11 interviews on the announcement and 40 press clippings were achieved, supported by the placement of two leading opinion articles. Following this activity, ICM’s Share of Voice against their competitors rose from 0.2% before éclat began to work with them to 12.4% - this is an increase of 12.2% and saw them overtake their leading competitor.

As a business with recovery centres across the UK, it was also important for ICM to extend their reach within the 18 local regions for which they have a data centre/recovery centre. With a combination of local news announcements and proactive outreach to local press, éclat secured coverage in publications such as and the Yorkshire Post, Midlands Business Insider, Northamptonshire Evening Telegraph and Express and Star

éclat Marketing continued to proactively drive issue-led campaigns and secure interviews with Tier One press on news announcements. Interviews and coverage have been secured with publications such as V3, ZDNet, Computing and Computer Business Review through to vertical press such as Facilities Management Journal and FSTech. Through éclat raising their profile, and working as an integral part of the organisation, ICM has been regularly quoted in Tier One publications and were shortlisted in three of the CIR Business Continuity 2011 awards, including winning Most Innovative Product of the Year for Emergency Office.

Launch of wireless home networking products to consumers and retailers

The Brief

AirTies develops and markets consumer electronics products which provide four fundamental services (high speed internet access/ADSL, Wireless LANs, internet based telephony/VoIP, and internet based television/IPTV) for service providers, small businesses and consumers.

AirTies was established in February 2004 by a management and technical team from the USA Silicon Valley, with the strategic intent to become the leader in emerging markets. AirTies has an installed base of more than 4 million users world-wide and is aiming to become a leading player in the wireless home networking market.

In contrast to its competitors which are dependent on chip companies and ODMs to develop their products, AirTies designs and develops its own hardware and the embedded firmware. Technology innovations include wireless video distribution to multiple TV’s, wireless coverage range extension, and network setup at a touch of a button.

AirTies has been working with éclat Marketing since 2009 when the agency originally focused efforts on launching its wireless video solutions and set-top box trade to service providers. In 2010 AirTies’ management briefed the agency on a new consumer product which was to be launched to the media in Q1 of 2011. PR goals set to éclat included introducing the company to the consumer press with the aim to create brand awareness, but also to receive positive media coverage.

The Challenge

As this was AirTies’ first consumer product to be launched and introduced to the mass market, éclat proposed the opportunity to spotlight AirTies and create relationships with consumer journalists by organising a demo in London.

Due to the fact that the consumer press had no prior awareness of the AirTies’ brand, the challenge was to stimulate press interest and ultimately positive media coverage for AirTies following the demo and build momentum behind the launch and beyond.

The Implementation

éclat drafted a media invite and distributed it widely to the consumer press, following up with telephone calls, inviting journalists to a demo in the Mint Hotel in Westminster. The Mint suite was set up in the same style as a home/apartment, which was ideal to show attending journalists how the product works. There were two 2 TV’s, laptops, as well as a variety of consumer devices such as an iPad and Xbox.

Over two days, which also included a trip to Future Publishing in Bath, local AirTies spokespeople demonstrated the technology to 18 attending journalists, secured and facilitated by éclat. The journalists also received a complementary product from AirTies to take home with them.

The Results

AirTies received numerous positive media coverage immediately following the consumer product launch in publications such as Latest Gadgets and iGizmo. As attending journalists were given a product to take home with them, AirTies received a number of outstanding reviews in target publications such as Gadgets & Gizmos and How It Works Magazine.

Part of the product launch process was also to secure product reviews with print and online titles. As a result, the éclat team has secured a number of reviews with titles such as MicroMart, TechRadar and TechDigest, and over the coming months reviews will be published in tier one publications such as BBC Click and QC Magazine.

Last but not least, the product was also awarded “Editor’s Choice” of How It Works Magazine.

Conclusion

The launch campaign was a huge success due to éclat’s due diligence and project management experience. Personal relationships with key journalists in this sector contributed to the success of the initial project and Phase 2 of the project, which includes further product placements and media interviews, has now commenced.
